Kid's Summer Art Camp 2014
"Summer Vacation Station

We are so excited about our Annual Kid’s Summer Art Camp that we simply couldn’t wait to share it with you! This year’s theme is “Vacation Station.” Instructor, Martha Burgin has planned a six-week course of fun, creative, and innovative art projects designed to appeal to children ages 4 and older. Students will creative exciting art pieces inspired by trains, vacations, and summer travel destinations!

So, save the dates, mark your calendars, and call us at 828-632-6966 to register early for the best Summer Art Camp around!

What: Kid’s Summer Art Camp

When: June 17, 24; July 8, 15, 22, 29
Reception August 3

Where: The Hiddenite Center’s Educational Complex - 70 Hiddenite Church Road

Time: 10:00 am to 12:00 - Ages 4 to 8
4 and 5 yr olds must be accompanied by an adult

1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. - Ages 9 and older

Cost for six-week camp:
$45.00 general public or $40.00 for members of The Hiddenite Center. Students can also enroll in single day classes for only $10 per class.

The Hiddenite Center, Inc. is a folklife and cultural arts educational and exhibition center located in Hiddenite, North Carolina. A three-story Victorian house has been restored to house galleries and offices. The Center is designed to afford experiential opportunities for Western North Carolina and serves as a prism to capture the energies contained within the area. We invite you to enjoy!


New Executive Director
Chosen to Lead Hiddenite Center

James W. "Pete" Woods, Executive Director

After an extensive search lead by members of The Hiddenite Center’s Board of Directors, it was announced this week that James W. “Pete” Woods has been named Executive Director of the non-profit arts and cultural heritage organization, which serves Alexander and surrounding counties.

Pete Woods is a nationally recognized advertising and marketing professional who brings over three decades of experience advising organizations on the building and nurturing of their brands to targeted audiences. In addition to extensive business experience, Woods holds a BFA in studio art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a talented sculptor in his own right. Pete and his wife Tricia reside in Mooresville, NC and have three children, Alex, Katie, and Sarah.

“I feel fully supported by The Hiddenite Center’s excellent Staff and Board of Directors as we work together to sustain the quality of programming that this region has come to know and depend upon even as we build a greater awareness for all that the organization has to offer,” Woods went on to say. “It is our obligation and our privilege to ensure that Hiddenite Center programs provide fresh and relevant arts opportunities for diverse audiences. I am excited by this challenge and feel confident in the future of this vital organization.”

Registration Open for
New Session of Ballroom Dance Classes
at Hiddenite Center

Dirk Myers, II - Instructor

In response to the community’s enthusiasm for the class series, The Hiddenite Center has announced that a new session of Ballroom Dance Classes will begin on April 21st and continue through May 19th. Lead by Dirk Myers, II, the series features instruction in waltz, rumba, Cha-Cha and swing. Myers is an experienced instructor from Banquet & Ballroom (formerly the Havana Social Club) of Cornelius. Saturday “Crafternoon” Series
at the Lucas Mansion

Beginning in April 2014, The Hiddenite Center will offer a unique series of crafting classes for children and adults entitled, “Saturday Crafternoons at the Lucas Mansion.” This innovative class experience will feature fun and easy projects that will appeal to crafters of all ages.
