April & May 2013
Art in Relation

Art in Relation “ on Display in
Hiddenite Center’s Lucas Mansion Gallery
April – May 2013

The Hiddenite Center’s Lucas Mansion Gallery will highlight the work of artistic families during the months of April and May 2013. This unique exhibit features the work of artists who are related to one another, either as fellow creators of art or by family bonds.

The exhibit will remind visitors of the artistic ties that bind us to one another and to the world we share. Invited artists have been asked to submit one piece per person, along with a short biography about how they became involved in art. Artists were also encouraged to submit work “in memorial” to honor family members who preceded, but still influenced later generations.

“It is certainly evident that art relates to every facet of our lives,” said Director of Education and Gallery Curator, Allison Houchins. “This exhibit perfectly illustrates the old adage that ‘art imitates life and life imitates art.’ Art in Relation focuses on how art is shared in relation to family, friendship, and shared experience.”

Art in Relation will be on display April 5th – May 30th 2013 in the Hiddenite Center’s Lucas Mansion Gallery, which is located at 316 Hiddenite Church Road. The Hiddenite Center is open Tuesday – Friday from 10:00am until 4:30pm and on Saturday from 10:00am until 3:00pm. All Lucas Mansion Gallery exhibits are FREE and open to the public.

“We invite the public to join us for a fascinating exhibit that features distinctly different points of view from a wide variety of artists, ages, and artistic mediums,” Houchins went on to say.

The Hiddenite Center is a non profit arts and cultural heritage organization located in Alexander County. The Hiddenite Center offers monthly gallery exhibits, classes in art and pottery, and performing arts events.
